Freight Forwarder Companies in Kenya: Choose with Confidence
A freight forwarder is the company that stands between your supplier and your warehouse — booking cargo space, preparing customs documents, clearing your goods and arranging delivery. With so many freight forwarder companies in Kenya competing for that role, the vetting you do up front decides how your imports run for years.
This page covers what a proper forwarder does, the questions that separate professionals from brokers, and how Bluescale Logistics — a KRA-licensed, AEO-accredited forwarder based in Nairobi — handles the job.

What a freight forwarder company actually does
A full-service forwarder quotes and books cargo space by sea or air, prepares and lodges customs entries, manages KEBS, KRA and other compliance, pays port and handling charges on your behalf, and arranges transport to your door. Crucially, it is accountable for the whole chain — when something stalls, you call one number.
Many outfits calling themselves forwarders are actually brokers: they take your cargo and subcontract every step, adding a margin and a layer of blame-shifting. Nothing wrong with outsourcing trucks at peak season — everything wrong with a 'forwarder' that owns no licences and performs no step itself.
Five questions to ask before you sign
One: are you a KRA-licensed customs agent, and can I see the licence? Two: which steps do you perform in-house, and which do you subcontract? Three: will my quote itemise duties, port charges, transport and your fee separately? Four: who is my named contact, and what happens when they are on leave? Five: can you give references from importers in my industry?
A professional forwarder answers all five without flinching. Hesitation on the first or third question is a red flag worth walking away from.
How Bluescale answers those questions
Our clearing agents are KRA-licensed and AEO-accredited, and we show the paperwork to anyone who asks. Clearance, forwarding and Northern Corridor trucking run in-house; we quote itemised as standard; every client gets a named coordinator with a deputy who knows the file; and we will happily connect you with references. Then we suggest a trial shipment — the only vetting method that never lies.
Everything under one roof.
